Conveniently located between the cities of Sapporo and Asahikawa,
Takikawa is a major thoroughfare in the heart of Hokkaido.
While Takikawa is known outside of Hokkaido for marinated Genghis Khan mutton,
onions, and apples, it is more than just a place to eat;

Temperature Range:
In 2012, the coldest recorded temperature was -22.5 degrees Celsius (-8.5 degrees Fahrenheit) in December, while the hottest recorded temperature was 31.6 degrees Celsius (88.88 degrees Fahrenheit) in August. Takikawa's yearly average temperature is about 7 degrees Celsius (44.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
Precipitation:
Takikawa saw 1,070 millimeters (42.1 inches) of precipitation in 2012, which is slightly less than its average of 1,100 millimeters (43.3 inches).
Snowfall:
During the 2011-2012 winter season, Takikawa had 8.55 meters (28 feet) of snowfall. The average over the past ten years is 7.77 meters (25 feet, 6 inches), making Takikawa one of the snowiest locations in Hokkaido. Snowplows are often deployed overnight if snowfall exceeds 10 centimeters (4 inches), and mainly work from 2 AM to 7:30 AM.
Transportation:
National Routes 12, 38, and 451 all pass through Takikawa. The Hokkaido Expressway, a major vehicle artery, also passes through Takikawa, providing high-speed access to the rest of the island. Also providing convenient transportation to Takikawa is the Japan Rail (JR) Hakodate Line, which connects Takikawa to Sapporo and New Chitose Airport to the south, as well as Asahikawa to the north.
